Constant Content – The Success of a Website The world of Search Engine Optimization was buzzing over the past few years with talk of keywords and optimizing web content with the right “keyword density” to drive your website to the very top of the Search Engine results page.
However, most of the major search engines very quickly caught on to the methods webmasters were using to “game” the search engine systems. Over the past couple of years, Google, Yahoo, and most other major search engines have perfected a fascinating algorithm that now assures that the highest ranked websites are the ones that have the highest quality content that is new and fresh. The method that the search engines use to do this should provide webmasters with important clues as to what approach they should take to give their website a superior competitive advantage in the online marketplace.
Valuable Content
While keywords still provide a short-term instant rise in search result ratings, that rise is extremely short term, and disappears quickly if the content isn’t valuable enough to maintain the interest of website users.
However, content that captures the interest of website users who come across the page is also content that the largest search engines are going to consider the most relevant, original, and valuable. Search engines are first and foremost searching the internet for well-written and valuable content. Regardless of whether the keywords attract the interest of the search-engine crawlers, if the content that is found isn’t valuable or relevant to the keywords, the SEO value goes back down to nothing.
Content is Important – but Constant Content is King
Another aspect of boosting SEO ratings tremendously is the frequency at which your website gets updated with valuable content. Again – keyword might attract the search engines, and valuable, well written content may rate the website fairly high in the ratings, but what is going to keep you there?
Two things:
(1) How many people click on your page and spend time there. This will be accomplished by the value of your site, because by now you recognize that keyword-stuffed articles will not maintain reader interest. However intriguing articles covering the kind of topics that people are searching the internet for – now that is guaranteed to keep readers on your website and interested.
(2) Constantly updating your content. It isn’t enough to just create a website and let it sit there dormant for months at a time. Do that – and your website will see its quick demise in Search Engine rankings. If you want to beat all of the competitors in your niche, and within your keyword area – you need to constantly publish new content on your website within that niche, and on the subject of the keywords that you wish to maintain the highest search engine ratings on.
Other Forms of Content
While publishing updates on your website at least several times a week with new articles will definitely maintain your status at the top of the search engine results – there are also other forms of content that you can produce that will attract the interest of search engines tremendously. These forms include blogs and forums. While the format of these forms of content are a lot different than articles – they are still within the domain name of your website. As long as there is content constantly being posted to the blog and the forums – your website will be flagged as a very active website, and will rate even higher in all Search Engine results.
Forums
Enabling a forum on your website should be fairly simple. It’s typically a matter of installing the application from your control panel. This will install a simple forum with the default design. You can begin welcoming users immediately, and generate discussion on the topics related to your niche or the subject of your website. Don’t forget to promote your forum by traveling the internet for forums on related subjects and posting information related to your own form. Don’t spam – just strike up conversations and subtly mention topics being discussed in your own forum – and provide a link.
Blogs
There is no simpler or easier way to produce online content than to operate a blog. Typically a blog on your website will be an installed application much like the forum. Whether it’s Wordpress or some other blog setup, most blogs are extremely user friendly and simple to post to. Make it a habit of posting every single day to your blog, just as you would write in a journal. Write on topics that are relevant to your central website, so that overall your keyword count on your website continues to build – but more importantly making well-written and valuable blog posts will prove to the search engines that your website is active and receiving valuable daily content all the time.
If you are uncomfortable setting up a forum or a blog on your own – hire a webmaster who can install these applications on your web hosting account very easily and at very little cost.
If you are serious about gathering traffic for your website and seeing an overwhelming number of visitors to your site every day, and if you want to see your website rise up to the very top of the Search Engine results – the only effective approach to experiencing that kind of success is through producing constant and fresh content on your website as often as possible.
